Testing of Unreinforced Glulam Beams Retrofitted with FiRP® Reinforced Wood Laminations |
|
The staff from WRD has engineered a test protocol for applying FiRP® Reinforced wood laminations on unreinforced glulam beams constantly loaded and bringing the beams to failure.
The load applied on the beam, before and after the introduction of the reinforcement was constantly monitored.
The unreinforced glulam beams were 5-1/8" x 20-3/4" x 40' (130 mm x 527 mm x 12.29 m), 24F-V4.
The FiRP® Reinforced tension laminations were 5-1/8" x 3" x 24' (130 mm x 76 mm x 7.32 m). They were manufactured using 2 Douglas Fir laminations and 2 layers of Carbon Aramid Reinforced Panel (CARP).
The specimens were tested in third point loading in accordance with ASTM D 143, with a 36' span (10.98 m) and 12' (3.66 m) between the supports and load points.
