Introduction to WRD

Wood Research & Development (WRD) is a testing laboratory and quality control agency accredited by the International Conference of Buildings Officials (ICBO) Evaluation Service (ICBO ES). 

WRD specializes in:

  • FiRP® Glulam Manufacturer Certification
  • Wood Product Code Evaluation Reports 

Wood Research and Development has created a specific company to provide consulting services; Wood Composites Engineering (WCE).  WCE specializes in:

  • Wood Composites Design
  • Structural Analysis, Design and Drawings
  • Project Management
  • Restoration and Retrofit Consultancy

As an example, both teams have extensive knowledge in the application of Fiber-Reinforced Plastic FiRP® Products to strengthen and stiffen wood products.  Let us show you how to use carbon, aramid or glass fibers products to provide the performance you need.  Our experience is tremendous and we have designed many FiRP® Structures around the world.

We also have Technical Bulletins to assist with design and manufacturing of FiRP® Reinforced products.  To learn some of the technical details behind our approach to wood composite design, we have available articles published in magazines or presented during international conferences.
  

Wood Research and Development (WRD)  is a company currently accredited by ICBO ES as:

  • Testing Laboratory (ICBO ES accreditation # TL-193). 
  • Quality Control Agency (ICBO ES accreditation # QAA-644).

Wood Research and Development started as a Canadian company before moving to Oregon (USA).  Our first promotional brochure already reflected the wide range of testing capabilities and know-how about engineered wood products and connections. 

Today, WRD has highly trained personnel and facilities to provide a full range of product research, design, and development.  A selection of tests performed by WSTI personnel is illustrated in our testing library.

Here is a list of some of our most recent activities:

  • We prepare test reports and code submittal documents for clients seeking official recognition for their products.
  • We provide leadership in wood-polymer composites and FiRP® Panel-reinforced wood composites. Visit our work experience web page.
